The Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) is a complex regulatory system with many identifiable actions. It may primarily be viewed as a powerful regulatory system for the conservation of salt, blood volume and Blood Pressure (BP) [1]. However, an increased activity of the RAS, especially in combination with other cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, may lead to a cascade of deleterious effects.

Dose response of ACE inhibitors: implications of the SECURE trial
The choice of the appropriate dosage of ACE inhibitor in clinical practice is an important one. The available evidence suggests that in chronic heart failure as well as in chronic coronary artery disease, high doses of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor are more effective than low ones. The current recommended clinical approach is to target ACE inhibitor dosing regimens to be similar...

متن کاملACE inhibitors – angiotensin II receptor antagonists: A useful combination therapy for ischemic heart disease
Morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases are still high, even with the use of the best available therapies. There is mounting evidence that excessive renin-angiotensin system activation triggers much of the damaging and progressive nature of cardiovascular and kidney diseases through expression of angiotensin II. Moreover, angiotensin II play a major role in the development of end o...
متن کاملA Clinico-Epidemiological Study on Poisonings due to Cardiovascular Drugs in Ahvaz, Iran
Background: Overdoses with cardiovascular drugs are related with significant morbidity and mortality. Beta-adrenergic blockers, calcium-channel blockers (CCBs), thiazide, digoxin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors represent five of the most important classes of cardiovascular drugs. Overdoses with cardiovascular drugs are typically caused by exploratory ingestion by children or ...
متن کاملThe consistency of the treatment effect of an ACE-inhibitor based treatment regimen in patients with vascular disease or high risk of vascular disease: a combined analysis of individual data of ADVANCE, EUROPA, and PROGRESS trials.
AIMS Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors have been shown to reduce cardiovascular risk in different groups of patients. Whether these effects can be generalized to the broad group of patients with vascular disease is unknown. Therefore, we undertook a combined analysis using individual data from ADVANCE, EUROPA, and PROGRESS to determine the consistency of the treatment effect of per...
